“I have to admit that behind the idea there was a bit of tongue-in-cheek as I wanted to show people overreacting to some unknown danger. Most people have smiled when they have seen it.”

Peter’s Lockdown Story

‘This is a small painting entitled PANIC IN THE PARK. I painted it in April and May during the scariest time of the pandemic. I live next to Hampstead Heath and decided to set it there.

I was a bit scared myself at the time mainly because we didn’t know how bad it was going to get. I have to admit that behind the idea there was a bit of tongue-in-cheek as I wanted to show people overreacting to some unknown danger. Most people have smiled when they have seen it.

I’m a fairly gregarious person and we are used to inviting lots of people round for drinks and meals. So it’s been extremely boring only talking to people for short periods at a distance. I’m also fed up with zoom meetings. They show up all my wrinkles. I miss not seeing enough of my two nice children.

Having a project to get stuck into for a week or so is definitely a good way to avoid feeling glum.’
