Pam’s Lockdown Story

‘My Lockdown Gardens are two paintings I did looking out of my window in Kentish Town. In the early days I felt marooned and isolated so this was my response…

My initial response to Lockdown was isolation and disorientation. I soon realised I was in a relatively good position compared to how many others were suffering . My physical health improved rapidly in the first month. My life long asthma more or less disappeared due to the lack of pollution, and my weight decreased due to my daily 5 milers on the Heath.

Like many others, initiating a project kept me sane… Being able to paint and draw is an enormous gift at a time like this. I think those who gave it a go realised that art, like music, writing and singing is available to everyone… I think lockdown was the catalyst in many cases. It was a great shame that art shops remained closed long after garden centres opened.’
